Baltic Defence College Hosts U.S. Army Advanced Strategic Leadership Studies Program Delegation

On September 15, 2025, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) had the honour of welcoming a distinguished delegation from the U.S. Army's Advanced Strategic Leadership Studies Program (ASLSP), part of the School of Advanced Military Studies at the Combined Arms Centre.

This visit was a key component of the ASLSP's European field study program, designed to provide senior U.S. military leaders with firsthand insights into regional security dynamics and professional military education in the Baltic region.

The delegation was officially received by BALTDEFCOL Commandant Brigadier General Alvydas Šiuparis and Chief of Staff/Deputy Commandant Colonel Jonathan Huxley, along with U.S. faculty members.

The visit began with an overview of the College’s educational mission, strategic focus, and academic programs, highlighting BALTDEFCOL's role as a premier institution for professional military education in the Baltic states.
During their time at the College, ASLSP participants attended presentations on Baltic history and the evolving security environment. These sessions emphasized the region's complex historical legacy and current strategic challenges, providing valuable context for understanding the defense posture of the Baltic states and their cooperation within NATO.

A central feature of the visit was a comprehensive briefing and discussion
on the contemporary security situation in the Baltic region. This was
followed by a roundtable with Baltic officers, where Senior National Representatives from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland engaged in an open exchange of perspectives on regional defense cooperation and strategic priorities.

The ASLSP program is well-known for its rigorous curriculum, which includes courses in strategy, regional studies, joint warfighting, 21st-century conflict, strategic leadership, and research and writing. ASLSP students, senior officers from the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, interagency, and allied nations, conduct independent research projects, participate in planning exercises, and engage in field studies across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. The Baltic Defence College is proud to contribute to this program by sharing its expertise and fostering transatlantic dialogue on security and leadership.

Looking ahead, both the Baltic Defence College and the ASLSP program reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing dialogue and collaboration. Both institutions recognize the importance of sharing expertise and fostering transatlantic partnerships to address evolving security challenges. The College eagerly anticipates future opportunities to engage with ASLSP and other international partners, thereby strengthening professional military education and regional cooperation in the years to come.
