University of Potsdam Delegation Explores Regional Security at BALTDEFCOL

On 9 April 2026, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) hosted a delegation from the University of Potsdam, led by Prof Dr Sönke Neitzel, which included fourteen Bachelor’s and Master’s students. The visit formed part of the students’ academic programme and aimed to deepen their understanding of regional security dynamics and professional military education in the Baltic region.

The programme began with a welcome by Dr Tiia‑Triin Truusa, Dean of BALTDEFCOL, followed by presentations introducing the College, its role within the Baltic States, and the broader framework of the 3B militaries. An overview of NATO and regional security was subsequently delivered by the Faculty of the Department of Political and Strategic Studies, focusing on the current security environment and collective defence considerations in the region.

The delegation particularly appreciated the comprehensive overview of the College, the discussion of local and regional security challenges, and the perspective on collective defence. The students showed strong interest in the viewpoint of the local community, especially the experience of people living in close proximity to a neighbouring state waging an aggressive war against one of its neighbours.

The visit provided valuable first‑hand insights into how strategic realities are perceived and addressed at the regional level.
