The Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) community gathered on 13 January to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the historic events of 13 January 1991 in Lithuania. This year’s commemoration was organised by the BALTDEFCOL’s Lithuanian contingent, who brought the community together to honour those who stood for freedom.
The event opened with an inspiring address by Her Excellency the Lithuanian Ambassador to Estonia, Gitana Skripkaitė, whose remarks were warmly received and greatly appreciated by all participants. Following the Ambassador’s address, participants were invited to join an educational walk through Tartu, with stops at key locations to highlight their historical significance and the pivotal events that took place there. The journey concluded with the community gathering to enjoy warm tea and themed music, accompanied by a visual presentation honouring the historic struggle for independence. Several attendees shared personal reflections, adding significant depth and emotion to the occasion.
We extend our sincere thanks to all students, staff, families, and guests for their participation and respectful engagement. Special appreciation goes to the Lithuanian contingent for their initiative and exceptional organisation in making this tribute possible.
