Armenian Military Education Delegation paid a visit to BALTDEFCOL

On Tuesday, 3 March 2026, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) welcomed a delegation from the Republic of Armenia for a professional visit aimed at strengthening international academic ties and exploring future cooperation in military education.

The Armenian delegation, led by Colonel Arsen Mangasaryan, Commandant of the Military Academy named after V. Sargsyan, included senior officials from the Armenian Ministry of Defence and the National Defence Research University. The visit provided a valuable bilateral opportunity for both parties to familiarise themselves with their respective Professional Military Education (PME) institutions and to share best practices in officer training and strategic development.

The day’s programme commenced with a formal welcome and institutional briefing by the Commandant of BALTDEFCOL, Brigadier General Alvydas Šiuparis, followed by a technical briefings where the Armenian representatives presented their own educational frameworks and strategic priorities.

A central focus of the subsequent discussions, led by BALTDEFCOL Dean Dr Tiia-Triin Truusa and Curriculum Developer LTC (ret) Riho Tammistu, was the identification of potential areas of synergy. Both delegations engaged in an active dialogue to seek curriculum overlap and alignment between their programmes. This process of finding common ground is seen as a vital first step toward potential student or faculty exchanges and the harmonisation of educational standards between the Baltic and Armenian defence sectors.

The visit was a collaborative effort, with our esteemed neighbour, the Estonian Military Academy (EMA), also closely involved in hosting the delegation. The visit concluded with a transfer to the EMA, where joint discussions continued regarding the practicalities of future cooperation and institutional synergy. This engagement underscores BALTDEFCOL’s ongoing commitment to international partnership and its role as a hub for regional and global military-academic exchange.
