On 14 September, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) officially welcomed the participants of the 8th Command Senior Enlisted Leader Course. Bringing together 28 senior enlisted leaders from 20 different nations, this year's cohort represents a powerful convergence of diverse military cultures, operational backgrounds, and rich professional experiences united in a single classroom.

Opening the official welcoming ceremony, Commandant Major General Egils Leščinkis addressed the participants, emphasising that this course is a profound and lasting investment in their future careers. Highlighting the critical role of the enlisted corps, the Commandant reminded attendees that CSELs are the backbone of modern military forces. 

The learning journey actually kicked off with an initial online distance-learning phase on 31 August, designed to build a strong foundation for strategic advisor roles in military and governmental organisations, before transitioning today to the residential study phase in Tartu. Throughout the programme, these selected leaders will dive deep into academic studies, dynamic seminar discussions, and joint problem-solving under the guidance of our expert faculty and mentors.

Encouraging the new cohort to make the most of this unique international environment, the Commandant urged everyone to remain curious, ask bold questions, and learn actively from one another. With 20 nations represented, the true strength of this course lies not just in the curriculum, but in the wealth of knowledge the participants share among themselves.
